What is Medicare / eligibility
MEDICARE is a health insurance program issued and overseen by the CENTERS FOR MEDICARE & MEDICAID SERVICES (CMS)
ELIGIBILITY – If you are:
• A US citizen or permanent resident
• 65 or older
• Under 65 with certain disabilities
• Any age with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) or ALS- amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Lou Gehrig’s disease)
*MEDICARE PART A is automatic if you have worked at least 40 quarters in any US job where you paid taxes; if you are eligible for Railroad Retirement Benefits; or have a spouse that qualifies for PART A.
Parts
- A - Hospital - covers Inpatient hospital care; skilled nursing care; hospice care
- B - Medical - covers Doctor Visits; Medical Equipment; Lab tests; Outpatient services
- C - Medicare Advantage - Health insurance that combines with Parts A & B to provide comprehensive coverage and low co-pays. A variety of companies to choose from at $0 addit'l cost.
- D - Prescriptions - Coverage for medications with reasonable co-pays can either be included in a Medicare Advantage plan or be purchased as a stand-alone plan.

The Affordable Care Act (ACA), better known as Obamacare, is the healthcare choice of people under the age of 65. To choose which healthcare plan is suitable, click on the Obamacare button above to research and compare. Your coverage varies depending on the benefit selections you choose, as it is NOT a one-size-fits-all. Coverages range from basic to comprehensive. The plans are divided into four distinct tiers. Premium subsidies available to those who qualify. Obamacare Open-enrollment is from Nov. 1, 2023 – Jan. 15, 2024. *SEP (Special Election Periods) available outside enrollment dates. - Platinum - Plan pays 90% - You pay 10%
- Gold - Plan pays 80% - You pay 20%
- Silver - Plan pays 70% - You pay 30%
- Bronze - Plan pays 60% - You pay 40%
*Silver Plans are the only plans where you may qualify for cost-sharing reductions and subsidies based on income level.
